Fruit Is a Simple and Healthy Way To Snack

Many people who try to lose weight do well all day long avoiding food that is less than optimal for weight loss. Are you one of those people who can eat sensible food choices all day long while at work but when you come home you just have to keep those fingers busy feeding your face? Do you spend your nights sitting in front of the TV and all too often you get up for a snack that is something you regret the next morning when you get on the scale? I used to be the same way and one day I realized that losing weight is sort of similar to trying to stop yourself from smoking. I have learned that I am a victim of my own habits and because I feel the urge to keep my jaws chomping I was becoming more and more obese.

I have learned that I can go through the entire day and eat at healthy places like Subway or limit my food choices even at places like McDonald’s. I have learned to realize that my one biggest downfall was the fact that when I am home I am always raiding the cabinets looking for a snack. There were many nights I would burn through more calories snacking than I ate all day long. Once I made the equation in my head that I was a trying to break a habit I approached the situation with a whole new outlook. I decided that the best way to break the habit was not to break it at all. I realized that the best thing for me to do was to merely alter the habit.


Instead of depriving myself of snacking I now keep so much fruit in my home that you would think I was a fruit market. At first I was hesitant about the change but now I eat bananas and strawberries and grapes and blueberries and oranges and whatever else I can get my hands wrapped around. I have settled for the best of both worlds because I can eat pretty much as much as I want and the health benefits outweigh the few calories I am ingesting. No matter what anyone says, eating a bowl of fresh mixed fruit is better than a bag of pretzels and a soda. I love to sprinkle Splenda on my strawberries and the explosion of flavor from a cantaloupe is amazing.

If you are looking for a great snack then go get some fresh fruit and feast away. It may take a bit more effort but the rewards will be not a only thinner you but also a healthier you by the mere fact that you will be eating healthier food choices.

Dieting, Vacation and Life

You struggle so hard to be able to fit into those clothes and now you are besides yourself because you are afraid you are going to gain a ton of weight on those glorious few days of heaven, referred to as vacation. As the day of vacation bliss approaches you think to yourself that you may not be able to resist your chocolate nemesis or your double dessert desires. If this is how you feel then let us be the first to tell you that you are not alone. Sure there are a ton of articles out there that sound the trumpet of how to resist the deluge of calories and how you can come home as slim and trim as you are now. Well…..we have a different take on the entire process of vacation and we encourage you to take a vacation from “dieting” . The reason for this contrasting statement is because we do not even advocate you being on a diet in the first place.

All diets are doomed to fail because of two reasons. One is the start date and the other is the end date. If you decide to do on a diet you have set yourself up for failure because in order for a person to lose weight for life they need to skip the diet and learn how to live. If you start a diet and lose say 50 pounds by not eating any carbohydrates what happens now that you have lost all the weight? If you count every calorie you eat are you ready to measure and count your calories for the rest of your life? If you are trying to lose weight the best way to make it happen is by changing your life style to include more activity and by eating better food choices. This change of life style is something that needs to transcend a vacation. If you travel to France and desire to eat a pastry that choice will not ruin your weight goals because once your travels are over you will land right back into your everyday life and that life includes better and healthier food choices.


If you have the lifestyle now that is truly geared at being healthy and losing weight then your food choices for a week or two will not destroy the goals you have put into place for the rest of your life. If you love Mom’s pot roast then why not indulge in that second helping while on that visit. Who knows how long Mom will be around for you to enjoy another first helping? The point is that if you are really serious about losing weight then the best way to make that happen is to be intent on obtaining true health. That health is what will carry you to a slim weight through the daily choices you make. The choices you make on vacation will allow you to re-energize yourself and when you return you may have gained ten pounds but the mental attitude will be one of having been refreshed.

If you are going on vacation and are afraid of the choices you will make then stop worrying. Your weight loss will happen by those choices you make in your everyday life. Your vacation is not your everyday life so enjoy yourself while you live outside of your life. Enjoy yourself while on vacation. Your weight loss will be waiting you when you return so enjoy, refresh and re-energize yourself.

When the vacation is over just get back to doing what your body insists on being done to be healthy and keep losing weight.  You can’t live your life on a diet, so why try?  Just go have fun and be ready to jump right back onto your weight loss plan.  If Sensa is your weight loss plan, then just sprinkle it on, live and have fun!  Too bad it doesn’t work in liquid refreshments!!!

I Am Fat!

Here I sit, yet again a diet failure!  After trying to lose weight for all too long I am still fat and I know I am fat.  It is a weird sense of awareness that many will contribute to simply being part of a New Year’s resolution, but it is not.  I am fat and I know it, but the difference is that this time around I am going to lose my weight and keep it off.  I am fat, and I am going to change and I can say this this morning with a sense of relief.

Nobody really reads this blog, but yet I feel somehow fulfilled by writing here and I do not know why.  As I sit here in the glow of my desk lamp I realize that what I say here are things I would not talk in the open to anyone, even those that I consider to be close.   Being able to say “I am fat!” is one statement that I am scared to death to say out loud, but yet here I sit typing it to the world.  It is so public, and yet it is so anonymous.  It is almost a paradox and yet it is helping me to feel free.

I do not know where you come from, and I do not know when you may have found this entry, but I am inviting you to follow me on my weight loss journey.  I hope that maybe you will send me a comment, so I am not 100% alone on this journey.  It is my goal to buy, and use Medifast to my weight, but right now I do not have the money to order it as the start up cost is a stretch for my budget.  I used Medifast once before and lost over 100 pounds and then I thought I was a superman of sorts and could eat anything I wanted, with no consequences.

Until I can afford Medifast, I will simply eat better, eat less and drink more water.  I know this is so basic, but to do that is a huge leap for me.  I will lose my weight again and this time I will keep it off for good!
