Dry Skin Type

If you have dry skin type it reacts somewhat different to the normal skin types when it is exposed to the sun.  Dry skin tends to burn more easily, and the skin tends to peel after a sunburn.  This causes the skin to become itchy.

This can also be a problem if you live in a cold wintry climate because the skin can become irritated to the dryness of the freezing weather.

If dry skin becomes really dry it can become scaly, and sometimes it will even chap which makes the skin quite sore and irritating.

People with dry skin tend have more of a fair complexion.  However, this skin type is not reserved for only fair skinned people, dry skin can be found on all the other types of skin also.  The areas across the cheeks, and the forehead are more prone to become dry.  The cheeks will also feel tight after being cleansed.

There are a lot of contributors that tend to make the skin dry.  Although as we age our skin naturally seems drier with any skin type.  The factors that dry the face can include weather, our environment, the foods that we ingest, and even the medication that we are taking.  People with dry skin tend to shed their skin cells in quantity instead of one cell at a time as other skin types would.  This is part of the reason why the skin is dry.

Dry skin is not solely due to the lack of moisture as many as led to believe.  Moisturizers help with the dryness of the skin, but you need to select a moisturizer that will not inhibit the shedding of the skin.  The shedding of clumps of skin is one of the causes of the dryness in the first place.

By gently exfoliating the skin, the moisturizers do their job much better, but you will also need to be careful because this can cause some sensitivities in dry skin.

People with dry skin type should read the labels of the products they buy.  Make sure the products you buy are for dry skin, and that they are unscented because perfumes tend to dry out the skin.

Oily Skin Type

There are some benefits and also some downfalls to having oily skin type.  One of the benefits to having oily skin is the ability to tan well and to not have to deal with the effects of the sun like the other skin types.  Another bonus to having oily skin is the fact that you are likely to have less facial lines as you age.  While all of these positive attributes sound so wonderful there are still the downsides that can affect people with oily skin throughout their lives.

Oily skin tends to have larger pores and along with this you can expect to have blackheads because of the grime that is caught in open pores more easily.  Oily skinned people tend to be more susceptible to acne than any other skin type.

People with oily skin type tend to have darker complexions.

The cause of oily skin is overactive sebaceous glands that produce too much oil from the larger pores.  When this happens people tend to over clean their skin in attempt to get rid of the oil, but this does not solve the problem.  Excessive washing will cause the glands to create more oil.  A person with oily skin will have a shiny look a short time after cleansing the skin.

People with oily skin should always select products that are specifically developed for oily skin.  Choosing a product  that is not formulated for oily skin will only exacerbate the problems that oily skin types experience.

It is essential that people with oily skin type refrain from touching their face, particularly during exercise when the larger pores are more prone to retaining any grime that you could transfer from your hands to your face.

Know Your Skin Type

One of the first steps to having beautiful skin is to know what type of skin type you have.  The different classifications of skin types are determined by the amount of oil that your skin produces.  Knowing your skin type is necessary so

that you can know how to care for your skin and what products can enhance your beauty.  There are basically 5 different skin types: normal, oily, dry, combination of oily and dry, and sensitive skin.  We will cover all 5 of the skin types in this article so that will help you decide what type of skin you have, and how to take care of it.

Normal Skin

Normal skin has medium sized pores and an even texture.  This type of skin is ideal.  It appears to be smooth and healthy looking.  This skin type has good circulation and color.  The only problem area is around the cheeks and sometimes they can become a little dry.

Care for normal skin by using a gentle facial cleanser.  Massage it gently into your face for a rosy complexion.  Cool  skin with a refreshing toner and for the dot some moisturizer onto your face and massage it in using light upward strokes.

Oily Skin

Oily skin shows more of a shiny skin tone.  This type of skin type has larger pores that are associated with oily skin.  This type of skin has a tendency to make blackheads and other blemishes more prevalent.

Care for oily skin should start off with a gentle foaming facial wash.  This will clean away the dirt and oil without stripping away the moisture.  Soak a cotton ball in a gentle astringent lotion and sweep it across your skin to refresh and cool your skin.  Don’t forget the moisturizer, even oily skin needs to use a little moisturizer.  Use a light, fluid moisturizer for this type of skin.  Let the moisturizer soak in, and then wipe of the excess with a tissue.  This will help prevent shine.  A clay mask will also work wonders on oily skin.

Dry Skin

Dry Skin has a thin and papery texture.  The pours are fine and feels dry to the touch.  Dry skin will feels tight especially after washing it.  It is more prone to fine wrinkles, red patches, and flaking.  It can also appear dull which is sometimes due to the buildup of dead skin.

Caring for dry skin should start off with a creamy cleanser to clean away the dirt.  Leave on your skin before wiping it  away with a cotton ball.  Splash some cold water on your face to refresh and cool it.  Use a thick cream moisturizer to seal in as much moisture as possible.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is like normal skin with the exception of a few dry patches and oily spots.  Dryness usually occurs on the cheeks, and oily skin usually occurs on the t-zone of your face.  After cleansing your face you may notice some areas feeling dry and other parts smooth.  Most women have this kind of skin type.

Care of combination skin starts in the morning with a foaming facial wash to cleanse.  This keeps the oily areas clean to prevent acne.  In the evening use a cream cleaner to sooth the dry areas of your skin. This keeps the balance between excess dry and oiliness.  Use a strong astringent on the oily areas, which is usually the t-zone area and a mild skin refreshner on the dry areas of your skin.  Use moisturizer on the whole face, but concentrate on the dry areas.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is delicate, thin and has fine pores.  People with thin skin will appear to blush more easily, and can be susceptible to rashes, and other skin irritations.  Broken capillaries are also another problem that faces people with sensitive skin.

Care for sensitive skin by using a light hypoallergenic cleansing lotion.  Do not use facial washes or soap because these tend to irritate the skin.  Use a moisturizer to strengthen the skin and provide a barrier against irritants.  Make sure to use an unscented moisturizer to prevent skin irritations.

These are the main skin types, but there are other factors that can affect the condition of one’s skin.

Naturally your genes will determine what type of skin you are likely to have.  Our lifestyle can also have a bearing on the condition of our skin.  Stress, nutrition, medication, and many more factors can change the condition of our skin.

No matter what skin type you have, addressing these issues will ensure that you will make the most of the skin that you have and reduce the problems associated with your skin type.
