Skin Cleanliness and Condition
Cleanliness is essential for maintaining healthy skin. It is unbelievable how we seem to create problems for our skin without ever being aware of what the causes are. Skin cleanliness is a huge part of keeping the condition of our skin in great shape.
Many of us touch our faces with our hands several times throughout the day without even realizing it. If we kept our hands totally clean throughout every day then this wouldn’t be a problem, but this isn’t possible. We touch everything from shopping carts to car steering wheels that are never cleaned. We touch things in public areas, or at our workplace that never get cleaned from one month to the next. All of these germs we pick up are then transferred to our face whenever we touch it. The germs then get into the pores on our skin and cause havoc, giving us acne, blackheads, and other irritations.

Often times, the cleaners we use on our face can cause problems, particularly in people who have sensitive skin because of the harshness of the products. Your skin should always be treated with care and handled delicately. For the majority of people, the skin on the face is the most sensitive. We should take extra care of our skin, and by making simple changes that can have a dramatic effect over a lifetime.
Simply patting your skin dry, rather than rubbing it with a towel can reduce stretching, wrinkles, and more when the combined actions of doing this are added up over a number of years.
If you find that you are getting breakouts on one side of your face or another, then you might need to figure out what is causing it.
Questions to ask yourself may include:
- Are you rubbing your face with your hands?
- Are you resting your head on your hand?
- Are you talking on an unclean telephone at work?
- Do you wash your hands several times a day?
When you answer these questions you might just find what is causing your skin problems and it could be as simple as using a dirty phone or leaning on a dirty hand.

Cleaning Your Face Properly
Do you think you clean your face properly? You would think that we would all know by now how to clean our faces; after all we do it everyday.
During the course of the day we get a build up of many different impurities on our face that can clog our pores and give us that washed out complexion. These impurities come from:
- grime
- make-up
- sunscreen
- excess oils
- excess sebum
- and several other sources
Some of these sources are the conditions in the area that we live in, and others are how we live, eat, sleep and cope with the things in our lives.

Many of us touch our face throughout the day and the impurities that we carry on our hands get transferred to our face each time we touch it. We can also be in the habit of leaning on our chin at the office, or even touching between our eyebrows while adjusting our glasses or sunglasses. All of these actions can lead to a build up of dirt that can block our pores. For these reasons it is important to cleanse our facial skin by washing it at least twice a day. This is essential in keeping the skin clean and healthy while allowing it to breathe.
You will need a skin cleanser that suits your skin type, as some of them can be too harsh for people with sensitive skin. Buy a cleanser that is for your particular skin type. Look and read the labels of the skin care products to see whether it is recommended for sensitive skin, oily skin, or if it suits your skin type needs. Sensitive skin is often drier and a cleanser for oily skin will be too harsh and could cause a reaction. By using a suitable cleanser each night you will be cleansing the impurities that have build up during the day in your pores. This allows you to have a great nights sleep on a clean pillow and not allow built up grime to create more problems for your skin.

Know Your Skin Type
One of the first steps to having beautiful skin is to know what type of skin type you have. The different classifications of skin types are determined by the amount of oil that your skin produces. Knowing your skin type is necessary so that you can know how to care for your skin and what products can enhance your beauty. There are basically 5 different skin types: normal, oily, dry, combination of oily and dry, and sensitive skin. We will cover all 5 of the skin types in this article so that will help you decide what type of skin you have, and how to take care of it.
Normal Skin
Normal skin has medium sized pores and an even texture. This type of skin is ideal. It appears to be smooth and healthy looking. This skin type has good circulation and color. The only problem area is around the cheeks and sometimes they can become a little dry.
Care for normal skin by using a gentle facial cleanser. Massage it gently into your face for a rosy complexion. Cool skin with a refreshing toner and for the dot some moisturizer onto your face and massage it in using light upward strokes.
Oily Skin
Oily skin shows more of a shiny skin tone. This type of skin type has larger pores that are associated with oily skin. This type of skin has a tendency to make blackheads and other blemishes more prevalent.
Care for oily skin should start off with a gentle foaming facial wash. This will clean away the dirt and oil without stripping away the moisture. Soak a cotton ball in a gentle astringent lotion and sweep it across your skin to refresh and cool your skin. Don’t forget the moisturizer, even oily skin needs to use a little moisturizer. Use a light, fluid moisturizer for this type of skin. Let the moisturizer soak in, and then wipe of the excess with a tissue. This will help prevent shine. A clay mask will also work wonders on oily skin.
Dry Skin
Dry Skin has a thin and papery texture. The pours are fine and feels dry to the touch. Dry skin will feels tight especially after washing it. It is more prone to fine wrinkles, red patches, and flaking. It can also appear dull which is sometimes due to the buildup of dead skin.
Caring for dry skin should start off with a creamy cleanser to clean away the dirt. Leave on your skin before wiping it away with a cotton ball. Splash some cold water on your face to refresh and cool it. Use a thick cream moisturizer to seal in as much moisture as possible.
Combination Skin
Combination skin is like normal skin with the exception of a few dry patches and oily spots. Dryness usually occurs on the cheeks, and oily skin usually occurs on the t-zone of your face. After cleansing your face you may notice some areas feeling dry and other parts smooth. Most women have this kind of skin type.
Care of combination skin starts in the morning with a foaming facial wash to cleanse. This keeps the oily areas clean to prevent acne. In the evening use a cream cleaner to sooth the dry areas of your skin. This keeps the balance between excess dry and oiliness. Use a strong astringent on the oily areas, which is usually the t-zone area and a mild skin refreshner on the dry areas of your skin. Use moisturizer on the whole face, but concentrate on the dry areas.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin is delicate, thin and has fine pores. People with thin skin will appear to blush more easily, and can be susceptible to rashes, and other skin irritations. Broken capillaries are also another problem that faces people with sensitive skin.
Care for sensitive skin by using a light hypoallergenic cleansing lotion. Do not use facial washes or soap because these tend to irritate the skin. Use a moisturizer to strengthen the skin and provide a barrier against irritants. Make sure to use an unscented moisturizer to prevent skin irritations.
These are the main skin types, but there are other factors that can affect the condition of one’s skin.
Naturally your genes will determine what type of skin you are likely to have. Our lifestyle can also have a bearing on the condition of our skin. Stress, nutrition, medication, and many more factors can change the condition of our skin.
No matter what skin type you have, addressing these issues will ensure that you will make the most of the skin that you have and reduce the problems associated with your skin type.
